The sights, sounds, tastes and experiences of a revitalized waterfront along Laurel’s Broad Creek are being offered for residents and visitors to this historic community on Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The Fall Ramble along Broad Creek is designed to bring attention to the proposed “The Ramble” redevelopment plan for Laurel’s downtown commercial district. Modeled after the “Better Block” movement, this event hopes to transform the area for a single day to demonstrate how temporary improvements can build momentum for long-term financial, social and environmental advancements.
John Shwed, Laurel’s mayor and chairman of the event, explained, “Our community members are rallying behind this effort to produce some quality-of-life improvements for the downtown area and to also make Laurel a destination for visitors on the Eastern Shore. Our Laurel team has been hard at work for several weeks now to produce a unique event that will inform everyone about our redevelopment plans while testing some of the proposed features and activities of The Ramble conceptual design. We will also be able to advertise and explore prospective commercial growth opportunities that can generate additional income for the town.”
Artists, musical performers, local food vendors, pop-up businesses, and outdoor recreation will all be featured to showcase the potential vitality of the Broad Creek waterfront. The Ramble Tap House will feature 3rd Wave Brewing beverages, and Vanderwende Farm Creamery will be serving up its delicious Sussex County ice cream.
Kayak and canoe activities will be concentrating at the public boat ramp at Fisher Park. A one-day bike shop will also be opening at the event with very affordable bikes for sale as well as free bicycle maintenance being offered for anyone who wishes to have their own two-wheeler checked out.
There will be an information tent for anyone who wants to learn more about The Ramble project.
