The citizens of Laurel are coming together with elbow grease, creativity and a spirit of community. The Fall Ramble along Broad Creek will happen this Saturday, rain or shine. Rain keeps poking in and out of the forecast during the day, and some adjustments may have to be made.

Getting the “Ramble Tap House” ready for Saturday

The day will begin at 11 a.m. with a very special blessing of the Broad Creek by Assistant Chief Larry Jackson from the Nanticoke Tribe, who will be accompanied by Tribal Council member Herman Jackson and Sterling Street, the Nanticoke Indian Museum Coordinator. Please gather with us at the “Wading Place” historical marker by the Broad Creek near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and East Front Street.

The Ramble Tap House, featuring brews by Third Wave of Delmar, will be open rain or shine – as will our other partner, Abbott’s on Broad Creek.  Several musical groups are planned for the Village Green and Roger Fisher Park, including Singing Daisies, Herb Quick on the guitar, Mosaic String Duo, Tony Windsor, Charlie and the Arthritics, Laurel High School Steel Drums, and RogJenea and Elisha.

The planned pop-up Farmers’ Market will feature Gordy Produce, T.S. Smith, V.G. Bakery, Lakeside Greenhouse and Delmarva Popcorn. Vanderwende’s ice cream truck will also be here, as will an assortment of artists.  Weather permitting, we’ll have kayaks and bicycles available for Ramblers to get a feel for an active future on the waterfront.

Of course we don’t want it to rain, but the spirit of a reimagined Laurel is catching and will endure.  We surpassed 400 likes on our Facebook page, and our posts reached almost 4,000 people last week. The Fall Ramble was featured live on the Dan Gaffney show last week, as shown in the photo.
